❖ Cottage CMS Alternative

A storefront is not an order desk.

A cart works when the price is already on the product. It does nothing for the message that starts “hi, do you do a three-tier for 80 people in October?” Bakery Buddy is built for that message — read, priced, drafted, and waiting for you to say go. Free to start.

❖ Where Carts Stop

Bespoke Work Has No Price Tag Yet.

Read, priced, drafted

The inquiry arrives as a paragraph of prose. Buddy pulls the servings, flavors, date and delivery out of it, matches your recipes, and hands you a priced draft. Nothing reaches the customer until you approve it.

The quote knows your costs

Recipe cost roll-up feeds the number, and Buddy checks it against what you charged for similar orders before. Costing you already have; costing that argues with your quote is the part that stops the undercharging.

Books, not just reports

Expenses with receipts, automatic mileage logging, a mileage tax report and a real profit and loss — the accounting half a storefront was never trying to do.

❖ Straight talk

When Cottage CMS is the better pick

If people should be able to browse what you make and buy it without talking to you, Cottage CMS wins outright. It has the storefront, the cart, the checkout, the pickup windows, the delivery and the shipping. We ship an intake form; a storefront with product listings is still on our roadmap. Their free plan is a working shop, not a trial, and it is built by someone who ran a cottage food business.

It also already has quotes on Pro and recipe costing built in, so this is not a case of us having features they lack. Bakery Buddy is the better pick when the work is bespoke and the admin around it — the pricing, the back-and-forth, the deposits, the books — is what is actually eating your evenings.

❖ FAQ

Common Questions

Is Bakery Buddy a Cottage CMS alternative?

They solve different halves of a bakery. Cottage CMS is a storefront: a website with a menu, a cart, Square checkout, pickup windows, local delivery and flat-rate shipping, so customers buy listed products at listed prices. Bakery Buddy is an order desk for work that has no price until you have asked about servings, tiers, flavors and a date. If you sell a set menu, Cottage CMS is built for that and Bakery Buddy is not.

What does Cottage CMS do that Bakery Buddy doesn't?

A real storefront with product listings and a cart, Square-powered checkout accepting Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Apple Pay and Google Pay, plus local delivery and flat-rate shipping. Its free plan is a working storefront rather than a trial. Bakery Buddy ships a public order-intake form where customers request a quote; a full storefront with product listings is on the roadmap and not available today.

Doesn't Cottage CMS already do quotes and recipe costing?

Yes, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Cottage CMS Pro includes quote review, and the platform has recipe costing and pricing guidance. Those are not the difference between the two products. The difference is that Bakery Buddy reads the inquiry and writes the priced draft itself, emails the customer the questions still outstanding, applies their reply, and carries expenses, profit and loss and a mileage tax report underneath.

How does the pricing compare?

Cottage CMS has a free plan that is a real storefront, and Pro at around $20 a month or $200 a year which adds a custom domain, quotes, customer chat, loyalty, newsletters and SMS. Bakery Buddy has a Home plan at $0 with the whole app unlocked and a 1% fee on online payments, and Baker at $29 a month ($23 billed annually) which waives that fee, adds a custom domain and a bigger Buddy Balance.
